ONE MORE BITE
Which Came First?
For many of us, autumn is the most favorite time of year. The air is crisp, pumpkins abound, and cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg warm the air. What is there not to love about pumpkin: pumpkin pie, pumpkin butter, pumpkin coffee, and of course, Eddie’s amazing Pumpkin Bars.
Is it really the true flavor of pumpkin that we crave this time of year, or is it the enticing aromas that emanate from the spices that are added to the pumpkin? We believe the warm spices give pumpkin that characteristic “zip.”
When our bakery prepares our “Almost Famous” Pumpkin Bars, they take great care to add just the right amount of spice. Without these flavors, or this sprinkle of magic, these bars wouldn’t be as crazy popular as they are, year after year.
We enjoy capturing these warm flavors, full of allspice and nutmeg, in lots of dishes. Roasted Butternut Squash with chili powder and allspice is a wonderful side dish that goes great with Braised Pomegranate Short Ribs (find recipe here), and Spiced Pomegranate Carrots incorporates the tartness of pomegranate molasses with the spicy combination of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon (find recipe here).
Experiment in your own kitchen by adding cinnamon and allspice to your dishes. Or, just take a walk over to our bakery and warm your soul with a Pumpkin Bar.
