Make Your Own Gourmet Flatbreads

Our “lazy days of summer” are numbered. Soon we’ll be back to our deadlines, schedules and school. Again, we have the dilemma of what to make for dinner when everyone in the family is running in different directions. Here's a suggestion: Gourmet Flatbreads. Whether you call them flatbread or pizza, they’re delicious, easy and fast. Bake them in the oven or throw them on the grill -- either way, they're done in minutes. Be original and think outside the pizza “box” or the lunch “box.” You can create your own signature flatbread just by varying the crust, sauce and toppings. Here are some ideas:

CRUST
The Pizza Gourmet frozen grilled pizza crust
Stonefire Tandoor Naan Bread
Brooklyn Bred Pizza Crust

SAUCE
Rao’s Pizza Sauce
Paesana New York’s White Pizza Sauce or Buffalo Pizza Sauce
Stonewall Kitchen Maple Bacon Onion Jam
Stonewall Kitchen Farmhouse Chutney
Cibo Naturals Basil Pesto
Dalmatia Fig Spread

TOPPINGS FROM EDDIE’S SALAD BAR
Shredded cheddar cheese
Crumbled blue cheese and feta cheese
Fresh spinach, mushrooms, artichokes, onions, tomatoes
Bacon, turkey and ham

TOPPINGS FROM OUR MEAT & SEAFOOD DEPARTMENT
Aidell’s Meatballs
Roma Sausage
Ducktrap River Smoked Salmon

TOPPINGS FROM OUR CHEESE & CHARCUTERIE
Fresh mozzarella
Chevre
Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
Gruyere
Prosciutto

All of the ingredients listed are fully cooked, except the greens and fresh veggies. Just assemble your flatbread with your sauce, cheese and toppings. Set flatbread on a sheet pan and bake in a 450° oven, or place directly on the rack of a hot grill.

Cook until toppings are melted and crust is crisp, about 10-15 minutes. Then, go for these over-the-top toppings: fresh basil, roasted garlic, Bella Famiglia Truffle Flavored Oil, Blaze Balsamic Glaze, Calivirgin Guilty Garlic or Bountiful Basil Oil. Follow your mood and your tastebuds … the variety is endless. Not feeling too creative? Try our recipe for Fall Flatbread or Grilled Wild Mushroom Pizza on our website. So easy and so quick.
